Dear Monica

Because of our asynchronous situation and physical distance, I thought it might be a good idea to create a blog where we can share information and write to one another.  This is a tool I used in my classroom for years; it enables communication, and readers/writers participate at their convenience.  Handy.

Right now, nobody knows about this blog except you and me, but it is public, so if you want to share the URL with anyone, please feel free.  Only you and I can write or comment. but anyone can read.

We can share the URL in the future with the CPTP team as an artifact and evidence of our collaboration.

On Saturday, November 20, there's a Virtual Road to Teaching Conference, hosted by Santa Ana College, and shared with us by the CPTP team at Cerritos.  If you can figure out any way to attend a couple of these workshops, it can do you nothing but good.  I'll go with you, and I can attend either the same workshop and we can discuss what we learned, or we can double our presence and go to different ones and share back.  What do you think??

When I'm sewing later this afternoon, I'm going to watch and listen to this 40 minute video about Black Boy Joy.  I worry about Black men in our society -- I worry about their safety, their opportunities to make a contribution to their world, and their educational outcomes, which are lagging behind Black women by a substantial number.  Buy why?  Why does education hold such little promise or appeal?

I hope you are having a good Tuesday, and that you are excited by this blog idea.  Talk soon!

  1. Alex,

I would like to start this off by showing my gratitude. You go above and beyond my expectations, thank you for creating this for us. This experience by far has been my greatest accomplishment! I believe that this tool will help us stay connected for future years to come and fabricate a lifelong friendship.

I've recently signed up for the LA Virtual Workshop scheduled through November 15-17th. This is perfect because now I have time to attend the workshop on the 20th!

Since I'm all caught up with my English classes, today's agenda consist of finishing assignments for Spanish and Math for Elementary Teachers. Busy, busy, busy, but I don't mind. When Michael returns from work, I plan on going to the local coffee shop in Bellflower, maybe you've passed by when you worked in the area? Does Postres Cafe ring a bell? I'm going strictly for coffee but their panini sandwiches look delish! By the way, do you prefer coffee or tea? Maybe neither? I hope to finish all school work by Friday so that I have a clear schedule for the weekend. My sister is turning 40! We're all going to celebrate her at Javier's in Newport Beach. Super excited because I love trying new foods and taking in new surroundings.
It's hard to shop for Clara, on top of her having everything she desires, she's a minimalist. Have any great ideas for birthday gifts? Perhaps something sentimental?

You've caught my interests, where can I find Black Boy Joy? I'd love to watch when Mikey takes his nap. I completely understand your concerns. Majority of our family are biracial therefore, this has always been a concern of mine! However, the stress has risen. I worry about the well-being of my fiancé whenever he's out on the road. I also think about Mikey's future, like any parent, we want the best for him. I just hope that he does not have to face any scrutiny for the color of his skin.

It's always a pleasure reading your chats! (Haha)
I hope you have a peaceful Wednesday my friend!
    See ya soon!!!

  2. When it's time to buy a gift, I get inspired by Etsy. Or maybe a cookbook? I love beautiful cookbooks -- the ones that are, "Yes I am a cookbook but I look like a coffeetable book because the photography is so fine and history of the cuisine is all here." Look at the cookbook called Oaxaca. I bought it for my daughter a few years ago. It's gorgeous.

    1. OH, I bought Maddy Oaxaca al Gusto by Diane Kennedy. But I love the look of this new one: Oaxaca: Home Cooking from the Heart of Mexico.
